Animal and Plant Cells

Let me just say that I LOVE THE SCIENCE PROJECTS!  I do have some very hard workers.  In the past we have made the cells in class and I am glad I did that differently this year!  Our third graders were much more creative then I was!

I am going to post all projects here, or at least try!  There are 48 since I am including both science classes.  Please let me know if your child does not see his or her project.  I will post almost half of them tonight, and the other half when they are graded.  I would like to have them hanging for Parent-Teacher Conferences; however, they may not be very visible since the book fair sets up right in front of where we hang our work...bummer!

See....I told you they were good!  (Sorry, for the delay...it was taking longer to get these uploaded!)
Check back later for the rest!
Great job C.M. and L.G. for earning their Book It Award!

Happy Spelling!

A Rounding Fairy Tale

Today, I introduced rounding numbers.  We will be working on a short unit about rounding numbers to the nearest tens, hundreds, or thousands place, then adding or subtracting them.  This can be simple for numbers like 14 and 48, but when we get to round 1,425 to the nearest tens place, I usually encounter some confusion.  I recently discovered Fairy Tale Rounding which has a fun story, and will hopefully help students remember the steps.  A paper will come home describing the steps, but I did find this youtube video that explains it.  They will not have homework tonight for this, but I thought you might find it helpful when working with your child at home in the future!
(Hopefully this works, I am a newbie at embedding a video into a blog post!  See, I am like the kids...still learning!)

Keep practicing those math facts and enjoy the weather!

Happy Birthday, M.C!

Vincent VanGogh Art

Monday is our day for Art!  Yesterday students were shown samples of Vincent VanGogh's famous Sunflowers Painting, then they could recreate their own with oil pastels.  Here are several that were completed and hung up.  I am posting all of them that are finished.  Hopefully, your child can find their masterpeice!

A paper also went home tonight explaining the upcoming Science Project.  Students are required to make a diagram of a plant cell and an animal cell using various arts/craft supplies.  Projects are due October 12th.
Have a good night!
